Are you Veeam-aware?

If you think of yourself as being a tech savvy, you probably already know Veeam, but this space is dedicated  to telling you about our partner that delivers backup, disaster recovery and intelligent data management software on a worldwide basis.

#FUNFACT The name Veeam is the phonetic pronunciation of the letters VM, which stand for virtual machines.

The backup and disaster recovery services we deliver through Veeam can be used for virtual, physical and multi-cloud environments. Founded in 2006, Veeam has been a major player from the dawn of virtual infrastructure, and we started working with them back in 2011. From that year on, we have delivered Veeam Backup & Replication which it is still called today.

What is Veeam Backup & Replication?

Backup & Replication is the name of the backup application for virtual environments that are built on VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisors. Through the software, users have access to backup, restore and replicate which work on virtual machines as well as physical servers – in short, on all workstations.

The Veaam Trio

With Backup & Replication, you can back up virtual environments with a software solution that can be deployed on your own hardware. It can either run on physical servers or virtual environments of your own choice. The backup repository is scalable, and you can easily deploy backups in the console.

#FUNFACT In 2018, Veeam was Gartner’s Peer Insights Customer’s Choice Distinction winner for Data Center Backup and Recovery Software.

In the Backup & Replication console, you can do a VM replication. This means that you create a “clone” of a production VM onsite or off-premise to the cloud. This lets you keep your clone in a ready-to-use state in case anything should happen to your original setup.

#FUNFACT Veeam is founded and governed by Russians, but headquartered in Switzerland.

The recovery

A recovery consists of 4 different recovery levels, where you can either do an immediate restore of a VM via Entire VM recovery, a file-level recovery, which recovers specific files, a virtual drive restore that is a specific VM hard drive recovery, or last, but not least an application-item recovery, where you recover items from e.g. SharePoint, an MS SQL server or an Oracle database. Learn more about the 4 levels by looking at BaaS, DRaaS and Cloud Connect.
